Five Vodklove labels from the series with the heart drawn in lines: apple, bubblegum, cherry, blackcurrant and watermelon

01 About the project

The labels for Vodklove, a 17.5% spirit drink in several flavours: apple, bubblegum, cherry, orange, blackcurrant and watermelon.

I started from twelve directions presented on the bottle, then took four of them to the final file: a Phoenix emblem inside a gold ring, a folk illustration with birds and an orchard, a VK monogram with a ribbon and, last, the series with the heart drawn in lines. Each direction was drawn and vectorised in Adobe Illustrator, then rolled out to every flavour from the same template file.

— The challenge

A tall, narrow label (about 7 × 18 cm) has to read from a distance on the shelf, look just as good on a matte black bottle and be easy to switch for each flavour — without redrawing everything from scratch.

Twelve directions presented on the bottle, four of which were taken to a finished version: Phoenix, folk illustration, VK monogram and the series with the heart drawn in lines.

The illustrations redrawn as clean vectors in Illustrator — birds, branches, fruit, landscape —, with separate layers and colours for print.

A template file for each series, from which every flavour was produced: the colour, the fruit and the name change, everything else stays identical.

Retouching and presentation mockups in Photoshop, to see the label on the bottle before printing.

Twelve Vodklove label options, each on six black bottles, from folk illustration and engraving to retro type and a gold monogram — The first step: twelve directions, each on the whole range, so the choice is made on the shelf, not on a screen. Presentation mockups, not product photographs.
